Traditional with a modern twist: images from Eynsham Village Show 12 September 2009, kindly supplied by Paul Stammers. Details of winners below.
Helen Peacocke, food judge of long standing, reports: "With more than 120 people taking part, many entering more than one category, the Village Show was better than ever and a great example of our enthusiasm for a community event such as this. The jam section was particularly impressive, and the carrot cakes were scrumptious. So were the apple pies and fruit cakes. My dog certainly enjoyed judging the home-baked dog biscuit section. After sniffing each bowl carefully, he was let off his lead and allowed to make for his favourite, which he chomped down with great enthusiasm."
After much deliberation, licking of lips and sniffing, Pythius gave his verdict in Class 82 Homemade Dog Biscuits:
Pythius seemed to enjoy his “onerous” task and thanked all eight entrants for making his morning very special. He left saying that he needed a long walk and a snooze.
Helen Peacocke, who Pythius says dragged him around over 40 pubs, sometimes visiting on several occasions, donated a signed copy of their book “Paws Under The Table” for the winner.
Seems like Shirley will be enjoying a glass or two over the coming months.

she still smiles when she sees me

This photo was taken in the Butterfly House at Blenheim Palace. Kathie couldn't get over the fact that you could actually see the butterfly feeding from the flower. She adds:
"Someone at the show was amazed that I had taken this with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5, which hasn't got any fancy large lens on! Sometimes when you print close-up photos they lose the clarity but this one came out well. I haven't won anything in the photo class before and I won a bronze in the Manipulate
